We are a strong international team of 40 employees with headquarters in our CO2 neutral in Gentofte (Greater Copenhagen), Denmark and local offices or showrooms in Munich, Oslo and London.

Job description

As a Footwear Designer at Wheat, you will play an essential role in designing and developing new footwear collections, ensuring they meet Wheat’s vision, market demands, and brand identity. The ideal candidate will have a passion for footwear, an understanding of trends, materials, and the technical aspects of shoe design, along with a strong sense of aesthetics.

Key responsibilities

• Design Footwear Collections: Develop and sketch new footwear designs, ensuring alignment with seasonal trends, colors and brand identity.
• Trend Analysis: Research current kids’ fashion and footwear trends, especially focused on sustainable materials
• Material Selection: Choose appropriate materials and colors that meet aesthetic and functional requirements for the footwear. Here again with a high focus on responsible production and sustainable materials
• Prototyping & Development: Collaborate with the Footwear Manager and manufacturers to create prototypes and samples, ensuring designs are practical for mass production.
• Technical Drawings: Create detailed technical drawings and specifications for production teams, ensuring accuracy in design details.
• Collaborate with the Design department: Work closely with the design team to ensure cohesive color range and brand feel.
• Sustainability Focus: Incorporate eco-friendly materials and sustainable practices into the design process where possible.
• Meet the suppliers: Visit our suppliers in Portugal and China two times per year and follow up on new developments

Qualifications

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.
• Knowledge of Materials: Strong understanding of different materials, especially leather, textiles, and synthetic materials commonly used in footwear.
• Creativity & Innovation: Ability to create original, stylish designs that align with market trends.
• Attention to Detail: Strong eye for detail in both aesthetics and functionality.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present and justify design concepts.
• Team Player: Collaborative approach with a proactive mindset.
