The alt kids are alright at Han Kjøbenhavn
The Danish brand has had to scale down business in recent times but the larger-than-life silhouettes that it’s become known for signalled that the label’s defiantly here to stay.This review is brought to you in collaboration with Bolou Fine Jewellery.

This season, the sun has shone down on Copenhagen all week. Ahead of the Han Kjøbenhavn show, the heavens opened — an unfortunate occurrence for any other brand but the gloom emboldened the grunge aesthetic of a label that’s always catered to those who do things differently.
Staged at the furthest end of Refshalevej in Reffen, benches outlined a makeshift catwalk backdropped by wind turbines and The Wolf of Copenhagen painting by artist Victor Ash. Underneath a grey sky, models stepped out in pieces that mirrored the hue. Distressed denim bomber jackets were paired with ultra-skinny jeans that ruched around the ankles: a hallmark design motif of Founder and Creative Director, Jannik Wikkelsø Davidsen. Elsewhere, dresses with deep necklines were reinforced with 3D structures around the shoulders — arguably a nod to Rick Owens’ unconventional oeuvre.
Striped jerseys with extreme shoulder pads and skin-tight dresses sported the words “Citizen of Denmark” and “The Family, Han Kjøbenhavn” for an unexpected display of patriotism from the unorthodox label. A Shaft-style longline jacket, again, with exaggerated shoulders, proffered itself as a must-have layer to those committed to Davidsen’s grunge-led vision. Although the label has had to make necessary economic adjustments, this collection showed that nothing can rain on Han Kjøbenhavn’s parade.
