Gestuz girls channelled rockstar royalty

“Do you think there are too many bags?” Gestuz’s Art Director Sille Overgaard Sørensen said before the show. The brand’s new foldover handbag comes in several iterations – staple black, two-tone, leopard print – but the creative director wanted every look to effortlessly clash while maintaining a sense of balance. The collection paid tribute to rockstar wives of the 70s such as Bianca Jagger and Jane Birkin, whose signature style has endured for decades. If Gestuz were going to pay homage to fashion icons of that calibre, the label would have to deliver, and what better way to do so than by staging the show at one of Copenhagen’s most illustrious palaces?
Guests were invited into the ballroom of Moltkes Palæ with its gold-framed windows and decadent chandeliers. In the centre, the band support for Danish-Faroese artist Brimheim sipped glasses of red wine ahead of the show’s start – in true rock ‘n’ roll fashion. The singer, whose real name is Helena Heinesen Rebensdorff, reclined on a velvet bench while she belted out the opening song.
The chandeliers dramatically brightened as the first models sailed around the space with palpable confidence. The collection was crafted around the “spirit of contrast”, according to Creative Director and Founder Sanne Sehested, which was noticeable throughout. A grey leather two-piece was paired with a sheer top while a collared dress in leopard was styled with a cow-print belt to cinch the look in at the waist. Leather dominated the collection: from a motocross jacket tucked into a high-waisted skirt to an extra-mini skirt in a distressed finish. Rhinestone-studded denim felt particularly rebellious but a floor-length lace dress with a dramatic thigh split stole the show. Sehested intentionally tapped into the inherent coolness of French and Danish women for this collection, presenting a diverse band of women in looks that commanded the limelight – making them rockstars in their own right.
