Why Was The Agreement At The End Of Ww1 Flawed

The Versailles Compromise was a compromise between Germany and the Allied Powers, which was concluded after many conflicts and signed on June 28, 1919. The treaty created the League of Nations, a pact that would preserve peace among nations. The treaty punished Germany. It has lost a sinful territory, like all its overseas colonies in Africa and the Pacific, which have become mandates or territories administered by the League of Nations. According to the peace agreement, the Allies would govern the mandates until they were ready for independence. Across Africa and Asia, people in mandated territories were angry at the Allies` disregard for their desire for freedom, making them feel deeply betrayed. The Treaty of Versailles had many shortcomings that made it ineffective. This included the fact that residents of the mandate areas created by the treaty were angry at how their independence was being ignored. Italy and Japan also felt betrayed, as they had lost more in the war than they had received, and their demands were also rejected.

The creation of many new different nations also caused instability in Europe. The “imperfect peace” brought about by the Treaty of Versailles would eventually disappear and new conflicts would increase. The Germans, however, had believed in the Fourteen Points because they offered a glimmer of hope. Germany therefore reacted with anger and rage to the final terms of the treaty. The Allies sought out German officials to inscribe their names on such a unilateral treaty, and then summoned them to the majestic Hall of Mirrors at Versailles for a brief, anti-climatic signing ceremony. The Germans are not the only ones to be disappointed. Frenchman Marshal Ferdinand Foch, the man who had done as much as anyone else to ensure the Allied victory on the battlefield over the same Germans, protested against the treaty by refusing to attend the signing ceremony. Foch felt that the treaty did not do enough to ensure the security of France and Europe against a resurgence German threat. The Chinese delegation also stood aside to protest the surrender of economic privileges on Japan`s Shandong Peninsula. Several senior Allied officials resigned in protest at the terms of the contract or protested fiercely against parts of it. .
